304L Stainless Steel Plate is a low-carbon variant of the popular 304 grade(carbon content ≤ 0.03%), which significantly improves the resistance to intergranular corrosion after welding by reducing the carbon content, particularly suitable for welded parts and corrosive environments.

304L stainless steel is a low-carbon chromium-nickel austenitic stainless steel with good corrosion resistance and cold formability. 304L stainless steel has excellent corrosion resistance under normal atmospheric conditions, easy to process and weld.

  • Low Carbon & Anti-Sensitization: The low carbon content ≤ 0.03% effectively reduces the risk of carbide precipitation during welding, to prevent intergranular corrosion,without additional post-weld treatment
  • Excellent corrosion resistance: composed of 18-20% chromium and 8-12% nickel, the high chromium and nickel content forms a dense passivation film, which can resist oxidation and corrosion in a variety of environments, suitable for food, chemical and outdoor environments.
  • Great weldability: Low carbon design allows for great corrosion resistance without annealing after welding. 304L is easily welded and retains high ductility. Its toughness and strength make it perfect for welded structures and pressure.

How to choose 304L and 304 Stainless Steel

The main difference between 304 and 304L is the carbon content:

Grade 304 has a maximum carbon content of 0.08%.

Grade 304L has a maximum carbon content of 0.03%.

The lower carbon content of 304L stainless steel minimizes carbide precipitation during welding, making it the preferred choice for welded parts that require very high corrosion resistance. 304 stainless steel has a slightly higher carbon content and slightly higher mechanical strength.
