309S seamless stainless steel pipe is an austenitic stainless steel pipe specifically designed for high-temperature service, containing approximately 23% chromium and 13–15% nickel, offering exceptional high-temperature performance and oxidation resistance, making it suitable for environments exceeding 800°C. The seamless process ensures high-pressure resistance and leak-free performance.
Under continuous use conditions, 309S pipe can withstand temperatures approaching 1100°C (approximately 2000°F). Its high chromium and nickel content ensures it maintains excellent oxidation resistance and mechanical strength even in environments involving repeated heating and cooling cycles. Compared to 304/316 stainless steels, 309S tubing provides superior stability and oxidation resistance in continuous high-temperature applications around 980°C, making it suitable for demanding high-temperature environments such as heat treatment furnaces, industrial boilers, steel mill hot blast ducts, flue gas ductwork, and burners.

Excellent High-Temperature Resistance:
309S stainless pipe can withstand temperatures up to approximately 1038°C (1900°F) during continuous operation and up to 1149°C (2100°F) during intermittent operation. It maintains long-term high-load service capability within the 650–700°C range and exhibits outstanding thermal aging resistance.
Superior Oxidation Resistance:
High chromium and nickel content enable 309S to form a dense chromium oxide film on its surface, effectively blocking corrosion by oxidizing media. 309S tubing provides excellent oxidation resistance and corrosion resistance, ensuring long-term equipment durability and preventing oxidation and spalling under high-temperature environments. This characteristic allows 309S tubing to operate stably in high-temperature atmospheres and high-temperature oxidizing acid mist environments, significantly outperforming low-alloy stainless steels.
309S contains 22–24% chromium and 12–15% nickel, the higher alloy content compared to 304/316 provides superior heat resistance and oxidation resistance, also enhances the creep strength and thermal shock resistance at temperatures above 500°C of 309s stainless steel.
309S is the low-carbon version of 309 (C ≤ 0.08%). The low carbon content minimizes the tendency for intergranular carbide precipitation, reduces susceptibility to intergranular corrosion at elevated temperatures, and significantly improves weldability and resistance to intergranular corrosion. Post-weld solution treatment (holding at 1050–1100°C followed by rapid cooling) eliminates welding stresses, dissolves carbides at grain boundaries, restores the corrosion resistance and high-temperature strength, and ensures the welded zones also possess excellent high-temperature performance.
