It is well-suited for the processing, storage, and transportation of food products. It also possesses good workability and weldability. Applications include plate heat exchangers, bellows, household goods, construction materials, and use within the chemical and food industries. 304 stainless steel is recognized as a food-grade material.
Stainless steel strips—also referred to simply as steel strips—are categorized by production method (hot-rolled or cold-rolled) and quality grade (standard or high-quality). There is a wide variety of stainless steel strips, serving a broad range of applications.
Common types include stainless steel coils, precision stainless steel strips, and imported stainless steel strips.
Surface finishes include: bright, matte, AB, 2B, titanium-coated (gold, rose gold, black titanium, or bronze), industrial, frosted, brushed, “snowflake” (satin) finish, and 8K mirror finish.
The chemical designation for 304 stainless steel is 06Cr19Ni10 (formerly 0Cr18Ni9), containing 19% chromium and 8–10% nickel.
While nickel (Ni) and chromium (Cr) are the most critical elements in 304 stainless steel, the composition is not limited to these two; specific requirements are defined by product standards. In the industry, a material is generally considered 304 stainless steel if it contains more than 8% nickel and more than 18% chromium—which is why this type is often referred to as “18/8 stainless steel.”
