2205 Stainless Steel (Grade 00Cr22Ni5Mo3N)
Duplex stainless steel 2205 is a dual-phase alloy composed of 22% chromium, 2.5% molybdenum, and 4.5% nickel-nitrogen. It features high strength,
good impact toughness, and excellent resistance to both general and localized stress corrosion. The yield strength of 2205 duplex stainless steel is double that of
austenitic stainless steel; this characteristic allows designers to reduce product weight and gives the alloy a cost advantage over grades 316 and 317L.
This alloy is particularly suitable for use within the temperature range of -50°F to 600°F. Applications outside this range may
also be considered, though there are limitations, particularly regarding welded structures.

Precautions for Use–Alloy 2205
Welding: During welding, heat input must be controlled to prevent the precipitation of harmful phases in the heat-affected zone (HAZ), which could compromise material properties.
Heat Treatment: Appropriate post-weld heat treatment (such as solution treatment) is required to restore the material’s excellent corrosion resistance and mechanical properties.
