410S Stainless Steel Pipe

410S stainless steel pipe is a low-carbon ferritic stainless steel material that maintains excellent oxidation resistance while significantly improving weldability through reduced carbon content.

Excellent oxidation resistance (suitable for 600–800°C)

Low-carbon design reduces intergranular corrosion

Good weldability

Significantly lower cost than austenitic stainless steels (such as 304)

Product Description

410S stainless steel pipe is a low-carbon ferritic stainless steel material that maintains excellent oxidation resistance while significantly improving weldability through reduced carbon content.

Compared to 410: More consistent weldability, reducing the risk of cracking;

Compared to 304: Significantly lower cost while meeting heat-resistant operating conditions.

410S stainless steel pipe is considered an “economical heat-resistant material” for high-temperature environments.

What is 410S Stainless Steel

410S stainless steel is a low-carbon martensitic stainless steel and a low-carbon modified version of 410 stainless steel (13% chromium). It prevents hardening and cracking during high-temperature or welding processes by controlling the carbon content (typically ≤ 0.08%), improves weldability, prevents hardening even during rapid cooling, maintains high ductility, and completely resolves the traditional “post-weld embrittlement” issue associated with 410 stainless steel. Compared to 410, 410S offers better machinability and weldability, but slightly lower strength.

Characteristics

410S stainless steel combines the strength of martensitic steel with the corrosion resistance of ferritic steel.

Corrosion Resistance:

Exhibits good resistance to atmospheric exposure, water, fresh water, mild organic and inorganic acids, alkalis, and certain chemicals, with particularly outstanding performance in oxidizing environments.

High-Temperature Resistance:

It offers excellent oxidation resistance in high-temperature environments. It can be used continuously at 1300°F (approximately 705°C) and can even withstand higher temperatures for short periods.

Formability:

Due to its reduced carbon content, 410S offers significantly improved formability. It can be easily formed through processes such as spinning, bending, and rolling, and retains softness and ductility even after heat treatment.

Weldability:

Superior to standard 410. Due to its low-carbon composition, it is less prone to carbide precipitation during welding, reducing the risk of weld cracks. However, careful process control is still required during welding to prevent brittle fracture.

Mechanical Properties:

Although it is not suitable for hardening by heat treatment, it transforms entirely into a ferritic structure when annealed (1600–1650°F).

Applications

  • Automotive Industry:

Its excellent high-temperature and corrosion resistance make it suitable for automotive exhaust systems (such as mufflers, exhaust pipes, and catalytic converters).

  • Boilers and Combustion Chambers:

Used in furnace components, combustion chambers, and flue ducts—components that require high-temperature and oxidation resistance.

  • Petrochemical Industry:

Used in components like tray plates, tubes, heat exchangers, and pumps and valves, particularly in environments with mildly corrosive media.

  • Kitchenware and Home Appliances:

Due to its corrosion resistance and aesthetic appeal, it is also used in the manufacture of kitchenware (such as sinks and ovens) and the casings of home appliances.

Why Choose 410S Stainless Steel Tube

1.Reduce overall project material costs (20–30% savings compared to 304 stainless steel)

2.Reduce the risk of cracking caused by welding and thermal fatigue

3.Improve the long-term operational stability of equipment in high-temperature environments
